Bored of the beach? Book an action packed activity holiday

Even though many of us yearn all year round for a golden sandy beach, if you’re anything like me then you get bored by about the third day – there’s only so much reading and laying there with my eyes shut I can do! Okay, so now I’m thinking about planning my summer holiday it’s got me searching around for other types of holidays, and activity holidays are more popular than I initially expected, with a wide variety of different sports you can do all across the globe! So take a look at some of what I think are the best of activity holidays out there:

Best for the solo traveller

Hone your racket skills at 5 star Cornelia Diamond Resort & Spa in Antalya, South Turkey. Tennis coaching is included with a luxurious seven night stay through 5 Star Tennis Holidays, and with private coaching sessions included, you’ll be ready for the weekly tournaments before you know it. As well as seven red clay and three hard floodlit courts, the resort boasts three football pitches, a world renowned golf course, ten restaurants and ten bars and an impressive spa. For excursions out, why not take a day tour to visit the nearby Perge, Aspendos and Manavgat waterfalls, and the ancient theatre of Anatolia.

Best for couples

Why not cycle around Venice and sail through the country to Mantura? The romantic cruise provided by Wheel2Wheel Holidays will take you on a bit of sailing at night, and then off the boat for some walking or cycling to discover the cultural wonders of Italy during the day. The recently renovated 18cabin river cruise barge is authentically decorated with luxury touches. Once back on board the boat, enjoy a 4 course dinner and wine. Enjoy a good night’s sleep, wake up and repeat – a happy heaven for those hopeless romantics!

Best for families

Why not visit South Africa and experience a 7 night horse riding experience, with approx. 5 hours of riding per day. After you’ve woken up, eaten your traditional African breakfast of a hot drink and a rusk or buttered bread and watch the sunrise. The first stop is riding out into the game reserve to spot as many animals as you can, from wild rhino, waterbuck, giraffes, oryx, zebra and hyenas. Then relax back at your private lodge and enjoy a complimentary muscle massage. Afterwards why not slip into your dressing gown and enjoy the traditional feast that is dinner, with a glass of wine and watch the African sunset. The In the Saddle activity holiday makers can be tailored to suit each person in the group, making this an ideal holiday for riders and non-riders alike.

Best for sport-a-holics

For those of you who are looking for something a bit more wild and adventurous – take Ecuador by the horns on this unrelenting nine day trip with G Adventures. If you have a need for speed and a taste for vertical heights, you can experience all this and more in the heart of the dense Ecuador jungle. From high-speed white water rafting down the Jatunyacu River, to horse-riding and foot hiking up to the Llanganates National Park to spend a night camping under the stars. Then brace yourself, for a spectacular downhill-biking experience on the Cotopaxi volcano! Beware: For adrenaline junkies only! If Ecuador seems just too far, or you’d like to get in a bit of practice before you leave why not try a skydive in the UK first?

Best for first-timers
